Carmen Borgonovo on Holiday Style in Turkey
ARMI Style Brigade Stylist, Borgo De Nor designer and London it girl, Carmen Borgonovo, exudes high style and an effortless cool factor always. After launching her new collection, Borgo De Nor, to much global fanfare this spring, Borgonovo-- a longtime fashion editor and consultant to Net-A-Porter, Hogan and more, shares with us where she is headed for August holiday and what she's packing..
Where are you spending your holiday?
I’m spending the holiday sailing the Turkish islands with friends! We’ll be starting our trip in Bodrum and then island hopping about, soaking in the sun and exploring small towns.
Which pieces are you most looking forward to packing from your new collection?
I would love to take them all but have edited down to the Matilde in the blue weed print (perfect for a cooler evenings on the boat), the Anais in both the surreal blue and white prints, the Joana in green palm print, and finally the Ines in the red rose print. They’re all easy pieces I can just throw on for exploring markets, dinners on the boat or a night out dancing the night away. I love the movement of the dresses and the drama they have when you wear them. These dresses reflect the joy of summer through their vivid prints and bold color and they are perfect for a holiday escape.
Which ARMI pieces would you supplement your own with for the destination?
The green chiffon Roberto Cavalli dress! I love the ruffled high collar and easy feel for a more elegant night out. I will accessorize it with evening flat sandals, a long, gold sautoir necklace, and simple hair and makeup to let the beautiful emerald green color pop!
What is your go-to travel look?
Definitely a colorful maxi dress with Grecian sandals! When I’m on holiday I look for pieces that capture the essence of the place I’m visiting, and transition easily from day to night. I love dresses that make me feel effortlessly feminine. I will accessorize with flat sandals, bold jewelry, and a colorful hand woven straw bag.
Where are you most interested in shopping/ eating/ checking out on holiday?
Whenever we’re on holiday, my husband and I enjoy wandering about the towns, and visiting churches and temples with historic significance. Turkey is a country with so much history and I’m excited to visit places and architectural monuments I have only read about. It will be exciting to experience the richness of the Turkish culture in person. I’m also excited to indulge in the local food! I believe that one of the best ways to get to know a place is by engaging with its cuisine. Since we’ll be island hopping I’m looking forward to eating fresh foods, ranging from seafood to vegetables, and more!
As for shopping, I’m looking forward to checking out the markets and small shops! I’m interested in learning about the craftsmanship that goes into local arts and crafts, and finding beautifully detailed pieces ranging from jewelry, fashion and art. Perhaps I'll also find some inspiration for Borgo de Nor!
Tips for heavy packers?!
Dresses! You don’t have to think about separates so you definitely pack less. I also always bring a pair of black and a pair of tan flat sandals with me because they’re sure to match all the dresses. And I never travel with out a summer cover-up for cooler summer evenings.
What's your go-to work out regimen/ your detox?
I love doing cardio exercises like boxing, spinning and running outside! Not only do they make me feel good physically, but they also put me in the right headspace.
